Smoother Linkspan A report was presented to a recent meeting of the Board of Stornoway Port Authority disclosing that the latest modifications that have been carried out on the linkspan at Number 3 Pier have been successful in reducing the vibration on the linkspan, which has been an ongoing issue since 2003. Vehicle users travelling on and off the ferry in Stornoway may have noticed a smoother ride in the past few months. Over a period of seven years Stornoway Port Authority has spent a total in excess of £167,000 in various efforts to resolve this issue. Dolphin Protection Success Work to install a new plate fender on the dolphin at the end of Number 3 Pier, where the passenger ferry berths is almost complete. The £144,000 contract was carried out to protect the dolphin concrete structure and piles from impact damage by the ferry when manoeuvring in and out of the berth. Although, like much of the work that is undertaken around the harbour, it will go unnoticed by most of the general public, it is seen as a key component in ensuring the integrity of the dolphin for the long term.
