Preparations for Stornoway hosting the Cruise in Company leg of The Tall Ships Races 2011 – presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International - are taking shape with a variety of events planned.

One particularly exciting feature proposed for Stornoway is a spectacular laser light display over the harbour while the ships are in port.

Jane Maciver, Chief Executive of Stornoway Port Authority explained:  “At a recent meeting of Tall Ships Hebrides, it was reported that fireworks displays were now considered ‘old hat’, with Tall Ships treated to fireworks everywhere they go.  We decided to introduce something more innovative. Captain Smith suggested the idea of a laser show, and it was agreed that this would be very different and something that everyone could enjoy.”

The planned laser show is just one of a range of family-friendly events that it is hoped will bring people who would not normally visit the town centre during festival week into the town and around the harbour.
