Following upon reports about the possibility of a single large ferry replacing the two ferries currently on the Stornoway – Ullapool ferry route, at a recent meeting of the Board of Stornoway Port Authority the Board decided that, rather than re-letting, it would demolish the building formerly occupied by Stornoway Shellfish Company on South Beach. This will give the Port Authority more operational flexibility to allow it to accommodate whatever the ultimate outcome of the ferry review is.
After a tendering process the contract for demolition of the building has now been awarded to Oaktree Contracts. Demolition work is expected to commence shortly.
