PRESS RELEASE 12 MAY 2011 PORT AUTHORITY SUPPORT COASTGUARD IN FACE OF “FATALLY FLAWED” PROPOSALS
In its response to the Marine Coastguard Agency’s document “Protecting Our Seas and Shores in the 21st Century: Consultation on Proposals for Modernising the Coastguard 2010” Stornoway Port Authority argues that: “over-centralisation negatively impacts on effectiveness particularly when the nuances of the different districts are not being taken into account. Instead a general overview has been taken and a “one size fits all” approach has been made to the restructuring. As each area is fundamentally different we believe the proposal is fatally flawed.” The full text of the response as approved by the Board of the Port Authority earlier this year is now available on the Port Authority’s website @ www.stornoway-portauthority.com Stornoway Port Authority is also a member of the Task Force set up by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to support the local Coastguard Station in the face of the sweeping changes proposed by the MCA. The Task Force has responded separately to the proposals Consultation Response Form__________________________________________________________________________________
