HARBOUR CHARGES
Stornoway Port Authority Board recently reviewed its Schedule of Dues and Harbour Charges with effect from 1 January 2006.
In general terms the 3% increase on charges is marginally above headline inflation, but because of exceptional expenditure on the Slipway and Pontoon facilities an increase of 10% was necessary.
The Port Authority has spent almost £1m at the Slipway in the last five years, and over £50k on maintenance and repairs to the Inner Harbour Pontoons. Because of the increasing annual maintenance costs of the pontoons which are now 10 years old it was also agreed to phase out the present winter discount applicable to year round berth holders over the next two financial years 2006-2007.
