The AppointmentStornoway Port Authority invites applications to fill a vacancy within the Board, which consists of ten appointed members, serving the communities of The Outer Hebrides. The Appointment will be effective for an initial term to 30 April 2015. In making the appointment, the Authority is bound by the provisions of the Stornoway Harbour Revision (Constitution) Order 2008, and in addition shall act in accordance with any guidance issued by Scottish Ministers, from time to time, with respect to the exercise of such functions. Stornoway Harbour, as a Trust port, is an independent statutory body, governed by local and national legislation, and is managed by an independent board of ten members. No Remuneration is payable for this Appointment. The RequirementsApplicants should have an interest in public service, specific knowledge on issues relating to the local and wider community, and the economic and social context in which the port operates. They should be able to demonstrate ability and proven track record in their chosen profession or other activities, such as community work. The Board requires to have a broad range of abilities, knowledge, skills and experience relevant to the efficient, effective and economic discharge of its functions. In order to achieve best balance of expertise within the Board, the Authority would seek to attract candidates on this occasion with specific skills in Finance and financial modeling, as well as professional qualifications and / or personal experience in one or more of the following areas: 1. Commercial Marketing 2. Civil Engineering 3. Human Resources The ability to understand complex issues, to assess evidence and technical reports impartially, and to be able to contribute effectively in group discussions are also important requirements.
