Cruise Ships are an increasing part of port traffic. In recent years there have been visits from vessels from Finland, Germany, Norway and the United States.

Stornoway Port Authority is a member of Cruise Europe and Cruise Scotland which aims to promote facilities and tourist features to major cruise operators. Cruise Europe has also developed a database system incorporating itinerary planning suitable for major cruise operators.

Due to the ready access to the outdoor adventure activities, Stornoway is now a key stopover for the small expedition cruise vessel.

Cruise liner passengers receive a warm welcome to the island which is a place of outstanding natural beauty, a haven of peace a place of solace that offers a unique experience to its many visitors. For those with a spirit of adventure there are Coach Tours, Car Hire or Private Tours available. But if you want to take it easy the Town Centre is only a short stroll away.

In May 2009, Stornoway Port Authority installed an 18 metre Pontoon on the East Side of No. 3 Pier, designed to accommodate cruise vessel tenders alongside, thereby facilitating the smooth transfer of passengers to and from the quayside.

Pontoon within easy access to buses

The Pontoon connects to the main pier deck via a 27 metre bridge which is compliant with the requirements of the Disability Regulations.

Passengers are thus landed directly into a Temporary Restricted Area so that security measures and personnel movements are easily managed
