Caledonian Macbrayne
Ro-ro ferries link Stornoway with Ullapool on the mainland where coach services to and from Inverness connect with the ferry. There are car ferries from the adjacent island of Harris to Skye and the Southern Hebrides.

Search And Rescue
Stornoway has a major Coastguard centre with an emergency tug on standby and a RNLI (ALB) lifeboat on station. A Search and Rescue helicopter is based at the airport. A modern hospital and full communication facilities are also available.
