News Release

11 OCTOBER 2006

NO. 3 PIER REPAIRS

Stornoway Port Authority has closed the main Ferry Terminal at No. 3 Pier in order to carry out essential repairs.

The repairs commenced at the Pier on Monday 9 October, and is expected to last for 3 weeks. The main contract work was awarded to Aggregate Industries, following a competitive tender process.

This current programme follows the latest of seven such incidents in the last 9 years, requiring the re-instatement of two of the fender/piles on the west face of the Pier. The operation requires pulling the piles back into the correct orientation, before installing a Fentech rubber mounting cone between the pile and the concrete pier.

The Port Authority apologises for any inconvenience to the travelling public, but provides the assurance that the repair work will be expedited to have the berth available as soon as possible.
