Press Release

RAMFORM VIKING

The convenience of using the Port of Stornoway for crew changes was again highlighted today with the arrival at 11am of the Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) high capacity seismic vessel "Ramform Viking".

The "Ramform Viking" launched in 1998 is 86.2 metres in length with an exceptionally large beam of almost 40 metres, and a draft of 7.3 metres. Her Gross tonnage is 9456. The "wedge" shaped vessel provides a very stable platform for towing seismic cables and this specialist vessel is capable of towing up to 12 cables at a time, as compared to the first seismic vessels which could only tow one cable.

Commenting Chief Executive John J Maclennan said "The Port Authority is delighted that the "Ramform Viking" chose Stornoway to carry out such a large crew change involving two chartered aircraft to transfer 37 personnel. Once again this highlights the vital link between the Port and Airport and demonstrates Stornoway's ability to provide the other services required by such a sophisticated vessel".
