Press Release

NEW ALL WEATHER CANOPY AT FERRY TERMINAL

Stornoway Port Authority is pleased to announce that work is progressing well with the installation of the New Link Canopy between the existing Covered passenger Walkway and the Ship's Covered Gangway at the Number 3 Pier Ferry Terminal. The company who supplied and installed the original walkway in 1997, BBS Building Components Ltd are now back on site and it is anticipated that work will be completed within the next week.

Although the Port Authority does not ordinarily permit contractors to work at the harbour on Sundays, it has authorised the contractor to carry out some essential internal work this coming Sunday, when the public have no access to the premises. The work will be restricted to removal of a part of the walkway to facilitate the installation of new doors.

Commenting Chief Executive John J Maclennan said "The Port Authority Board is glad that passengers will now be able to embark and disembark the Ferry without being exposed to adverse weather conditions. The provision of this link canopy at a cost of some £40k will create a much safer means of boarding the ferry.
