SPECIALISED SHIP FOR STORNOWAY
The Specialised Heavy Lift Jack Up Vessel “Sea Power” arrived at Stornoway Harbour at 0715 this morning (Tuesday 14 March), when she was met by the port’s Pilot Boat “Portrona”, and berthed at the Arnish Jetty.
“Sea Power” arrived at the port with a cargo of steel plates (134) for Arnish based Camcal and will load out the world’s first commercial wave power machine which has been fabricated at the Arnish Yard.
The Danish flagged ship is 92 metres in length, with a draft of 4.25 metres and gross tonnage of 3332 tonnes. With her “Jack up” legs deployed the ship is capable of heavy lifts to a maximum of 400 tonnes.
The wave power machine or “sea snake” bound for Portugal will be loaded in a series of lifts with the heaviest relating to the 4 Tubular segment components of the wave power machine.
The ship’s arrival was delayed by one day on account of high winds on Monday but is expected to depart Stornoway either late on Wednesday or on Thursday.
Commenting Chief Executive John Maclennan said “The Port Authority very much welcomes this trade at the Harbour and is impressed with the very professional way which Camcal has handled the entire operation from fabrication to load out. We wish the Company every success for the future.”
