The
cruise vessel 'Kristina Regina' made a return
to Stornoway Harbour this week, as part of the
Northern Reach cruise taking in Scandinavia, Scottish
Islands and the Faeroes.
Many
will recall this vessel lying at Arnish in the
late 70s, when it was used as a floating hotel
to accommodate the extra personnel who were drafted
in to complement the local workforce, when Lewis
Offshore was in its hey-day. At that time the
vessel was known as the 'Borea', before the latest
change in ownership in 1987 to Kristina Cruises,
when she became the 'Kristina Regina'.
The
ship was built in Sweden in 1960, spending the
first years of its life as a passenger steamer
operating in the Baltic. Having undergone several
major modifications over the last 25 years, the
ship is now a fully functional cruise ship, offering
cruises in very traditional surroundings, to locations
in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean .
On
this call to Stornoway, the vessel was carrying
190 passengers. She left Stornoway on Thursday
evening, bound for Tobermory.
