Press Release

FERRY TERMINAL COVERED WALKWAY

Stornoway Port Authority Board recently approved of expenditure of some £47,000 to supply and install a Link Canopy between the covered walkway at the Ferry Terminal and the ship's gangway.

The Board decided to award the contract for the new link canopy to the firm of BBS Building Components Ltd who were the suppliers of the original covered walkway when the Ferry Terminal was built nine years ago.

Harbour Master Torquil Macleod advised the members of his concerns with regard to public safety with the existing arrangements where passengers have to walk across a section of open pier between the walkway and gangway.

With the new link canopy in place passengers will be protected from the elements all of the way from the terminal building to the ship.

Commenting Chief Executive John Maclennan said "The Authority is always striving to improve safety and reduce risk around the Harbour, the provision of this link canopy will make it much easier to access the ferry from the terminal building".
