Press Release WEIGHBRIDGE Stornoway Port Authority Board has awarded a contract for the supply and installation of a new 50 tonne capacity Weighbridge to Avery Weigh Tronix Ltd. Harbour Master Torquil Macleod advised the Board at a recent Meeting that the existing steel built weighbridge had failed load testing and was suffering from serious corrosion. The Board opted to purchase a concrete constructed weighbridge to replace the Harbour's Number 2 Pier weighbridge as the concrete bridge is much less prone to corrosion and requires less maintenance. The cost of the new bridge which will be used principally for weighing bulk cargoes such as coal, road salt and cement is in the region of £23,000 including delivery and installation. It was also decided to enter into an annual maintenance contract with Avery Weigh Tronix Ltd for the Harbour's two weighbridges at a cost of £2500 per annum. The Board is also looking into the possible replacement of the existing Weighbridge Building and has instructed the Harbour Master to consult with the Comhairle's Planning Department for their views.
