Press Release

COMPLETION OF NO. 3 PIER REPAIRS

Following the completion of repairs to the pile fenders at No. 3 Pier west side, the Port Authority has re-opened the berth for normal service. The berth was made available to the Caledonian MacBrayne Limited ferry 'Isle of Lewis' from Monday 30 October 2006, allowing normal operations to resume.

The repairs to the two fender piles were carried out in an efficient and timely manner by Aggregate Industries, under the supervision of consultants Jacobs Babtie. The works were necessary to re-instate the pier to its original condition, following two separate collision damage incidents with the 'Isle of Lewis' and the 'Muirneag'.
