Stornoway
Port Authority Board has refused an application
from the Hebridean Brewing Company to operate
from the Old Maritime Buildings at Number 1 Pier.
The Board
felt unable to consider the Brewing Company's proposal
as all of the Number 1 Pier area was required for
Harbour Operational Purposes.
HARBOUR
DAMAGE
Members
of Stornoway Port Authority Board were told of
damage incidents around the Harbour at the 31
August 2006 meeting.
Harbour
Master Captain Torquil Macleod reported that the
large bollard at the north end of Cromwell Street
Quay had been snapped off from its base after
having been struck by a forklift truck. The driver
of the forklift has accepted liability for the
damage.
In
a separate incident, structural damage was caused
by a vehicle to the masonry at the main doorway
of the Port's Fish Mart, Stornoway.
Enquiries
are ongoing and the Board would appeal to any
persons who witnessed the incident to come forward
with information.
RNLI
ACCESS
Stornoway
Port Authority Board has approved of an application
from the local RNLI Branch to provide an access
gate and stairway from the Lifeboat Shop on Cromwell
Street down to the Lifeboat Station Building and
Lifeboat Berth.
The
gateway will be used only by RNLI personnel and
will be key pad controlled.
NEW
AGREEMENT FOR BUS COMPANY
Stornoway
Port Authority Board is to enter into a new 5
year Agreement with Scottish Citylink Coaches
Limited in respect of the Ticketing Office and
Baggage Handling Facility at the Port's Ferry
Terminal.
The
new agreement will run for 5 years from April
2007 to April 2012.
PROVISION
OF LINK CANOPY
Stornoway
Port Authority Board has approved expenditure
of £47k in order to provide a Link Canopy
between the existing covered walkway and the ship's
gangway.
The
order has been placed with the same company who
supplied the covered walkway some 9 years ago,
BBS rooflights and Glazed Walkways.
The
Board also awarded the contract for civil work
amounting to £9,157.70 to local firm Aggregate
Industries following a competitive tendering process.
Commenting,
Chief Executive John J. Maclennan said, "This
is a great improvement which means passengers
will be able to embark and disembark the ship
without being exposed to the elements".
