MAY 2006
The
first of this season's cruise liners, the 'Black
Prince', arrived at Stornoway
Harbour
this morning. The 11,209
tonne vessel, operated by Fred Olsen Cruises,
was on a short stopover at Stornoway, as part
of a cruise from Scotland
to Scandinavia
.
The
ship is carrying 402 passengers, mostly UK
citizens and including
4 Lewis based passengers who joined the vessel
today.
The
'Black Prince' is a regular visitor to Stornoway,
calling in at least once a year. She may lack
the opulence and glitz of the Cunard Line Ships,
but offers a more traditional cruise with more
than a hint of luxury in a convivial atmosphere,
attracting the same clientele year on year.
The
'Black Prince' sailed from Stornoway at 1700 hours,
bound for Gothenburg.

The
oil support vessel 'Far Fosna' made a rare visit
to Stornoway harbour on Saturday. The Norwegian
flagged 'Far Fosna' is a specialised anchor handling
tug used to assist with re-location and mooring
of mobile drilling rigs. On this occasion, the
'Far Fosna' was escorting a drilling rig on passage
to West Ireland ,
but diverted to Stornoway for a crew change. The
vessels owners, Farstad Shipping of Norway
, took full advantage of
the close proximity of the Port to the Airport
and flew in a charter flight from Aalesund to
carry out the crew change of 12 personnel.
